ACT Health Prioritizes COVID Testing for Close Contacts and International Travelers in Canberra | Canberra weather

coronavirus,

Due to extremely high demand throughout the Christmas season, ACT Health will prioritize testing for people with the highest public health needs at Garran and Mitchell COVID-19 testing centers on Monday. It comes after wait times of more than four hours were reported over Christmas, with sites facing additional pressure in the coming days, and Mitchell’s test site at full capacity 90 minutes before opening Monday morning. . On Monday, between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., the Garran and Mitchell sites will only test close contacts, people with symptoms of COVID-19, or returning international travelers. Due to current testing pressures, for fully vaccinated close contacts who require testing to exit quarantine, a negative test result collected on or after day 5 will be considered sufficient to exit quarantine after day 7, at provided they have no symptoms. People who are advised that they are in close contact on the fourth day after their exposure, and are fully vaccinated and symptom-free, may wish to postpone their initial testing to day five or later. People who need a test for other reasons can come to the Kambah testing center during opening hours, or to Mitchell or Garran before 11 a.m. and after 3 p.m. Meanwhile, the COVID testing site in Mitchell was at full capacity 90 minutes before opening, as motorists attempted to line up on Hoskins Street with staff ordering people to leave and return later. ACT Health said testing those at the highest risk of exposure and with the highest symptoms was a priority to protect the community. High demand caused by pre-travel testing requirements from other jurisdictions has caused long waits at ACT Health testing centers. Wait times at outdoor test centers have also been affected by occasional weather delays. People aged five and over who need to be tested and who are not close contacts, symptomatic or returning international travelers, can still come for testing at our Kambah drive-thru, open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or Mitchell’s drive-thru (8 a.m. -11 a.m. and 3 p.m.-10 p.m.) and the Garran COVID-19 Surge Center (7:30 a.m.-11 a.m. and 3 p.m.-9 p.m.).
